SAB is established in 1959, it is a modern agricultural research base center in Shanghai it has 5 departments including Food Science & Engineering, Resource and Environment, Landscape Architecture, Plant Sciences and Animal Sciences. Currently, the school has more than 1100 students among which 500 are graduate students. The faculty includes 147 full time teachers (143 doctors) among which more than 50 are professors. SAB now has 5 bachelor degree subjects (Plant Science, Animal Science, Food Science and Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Resource and Environmental Science), 6 master degree subjects (Food Science and Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Ecology, Animal Husbandry, Agriculture Extension), and 5 doctoral degree subjects (Horticulture, Animal Science and Engineering, Food Science and Engineering, Ecology, Regional Planning and LA Design).
In recent year, the school has established close relationships with more than 30 world-renowned universities in USA, UK, France, Germany, Japan to promote the academic programs and research co-operations. The co-operation agreements signed with Cornell University, Rutgers University, California State Polytechnic University, University of California at Davis, University of Nottingham, Chiba University (Japan), Adelaide University and Aarhus University (Denmark). SAB introduced student exchange programs, 2+2 programs, joint training programs and joint research centers. So far, the school has several national and governmental level research centers and bases like The new rural development research institute, Key laboratory of Urban agriculture , Shanghai engineering and technology research Center of food safety, Shanghai key laboratory of Veterinary Biotechnology, Shanghai urban forest research station, etc. The close academic and research International co-operation provides students and faculties a wide internationalized platform for academy and research.
SAB has successfully found its unique way in “Urban Agriculture” and “Food safety and Nutrition” through its nearly 60 years of history. SAB is always devoted to the exploration and discovery of modern agriculture science and technology.
International Graduate Programs
International Graduate Programs of SAB are specially designed for international students aiming to educate a new generation of international “high-end professionals” who are qualified with systematic knowledge and internationalized vision in research and academic communications.
1.Master & PhD Program in Food Safety and Nutrition (Taught in English)
The program of Food Safety and Nutrition is specially designed for international students to fulfill the huge demand of the global market. It mainly features internationalized training, interdisciplinary studies and combination with practice. Students in this program are expected to gain professional knowledge and innovative ability in the field of food science and engineering.
The close academic and research co-operation between Cornell, Purdue, Rutgers, Aarhus and HUJ has also provided the students an excellent opportunity for study and research.
Curriculums:
The program consists of a dynamic integration of professional courses and fieldwork, which benefits the formation of the internationalized vision, and also will help the students to master the world level technology management and the insight into Chinese market. To easily understand the language and culture of China the program contains free Chinese Language and Culture courses for international students.
